"It all started with the two of us.”, the opening to TLC's smash hit reality television show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. They're not kidding when they say it started with them! What they started, a large, loving family, has been forever turned upside down with their recent shenanigans. The show has followed the daily lives of Jon and Kate and their eight children-sextuplets and a set of twins- for five seasons. But who have we really been watching? In the beginning, Kate was a strict stay-at-home Mom who was almost always seen in sweat pants and a sweatshirt three sizes too big. Jon was at work all day, returning home every night helping to take care of the kids. Other than the tough times we witnessed for Jon when he was ruled over by an often over bearing Kate, they were today's version of Ozzie and Harriet, with a Super sized van. The real-life Gosselin divorce has transformed made lead to one of the most unrealistic reality TV shows out there.
This TLC family has been transformed into a Hollywood nightmare, starting with Jon and Kate's nasty divorce. Kate is seen all over the tabloids with oversized sunglasses that, frankly, make her look like a bug, and a new personality.
“I definitely know there's a lot of ugliness out there about us. Honestly, I think a lot of it's because people squirm at how real we are. I think it bothers some people because it makes them think, if cameras were at my house, what would they capture? Would I be okay with that being aired?” Kate stated via Today's Christian Woman. Unfortunately, it seems as if all of that has changed. Yes, we know you have a lot of money now. It seems as if our favorite reality show has been changed for the worse. It should be Jon & Kate Plus What Hollywood Has Done to Them.
The Gosslins, however, are not the only family changed by Reality television. Shows like The Bachelor, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, What Not to Wear, and even The Real World itself have been seen more in the Hollywood spotlight rather than living normal lives. The question is, are we really watching REAL people anymore? -
